Case Study

Modern Waterfront Recreation Dock

A recreation dock built for everyday use on the water, with a floating section for easy kayak and paddleboard access.

Overview

Built for Everyday Time on the Water

This dock gives the homeowners a large recreation and relaxation area right alongside the house, finished with a contemporary railing system and solar-powered lights on the pilings. The permanent dock connects to a floating section, so getting a kayak, paddleboard, or other small watercraft into the water is as easy as stepping off the deck.

The railing throughout is a clean, contemporary system rather than a traditional style, which fits the relaxed, everyday feel of the space. Solar-powered lights along the pilings mean the dock and the recreation area next to it stay lit after dark, so the space keeps working into the evening instead of shutting down at sunset.

Layout

Water Access and Everyday Use

The dock is built in two connected parts. A permanent, fixed structure carries you out from the yard, and a floating dock section is attached at the end, riding with the water level instead of sitting fixed above it.

That difference is what makes the floating section useful day to day. Because it sits right at the surface, getting a kayak, paddleboard, or other small watercraft into the water does not mean climbing down a ladder or lifting gear over a high edge. Paired with the open recreation area next to the house, the dock works less like a formal boat dock and more like an everyday extension of the yard.
